Aikido and Ki Training in Orange County
The Ki Society was founded by Koichi Tohei in 1971. Tohei Sensei (sensei means teacher) began his study under Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, prior to World War II. He became the World Chief Instructor at Aikido Headquarters and was awarded 10th Dan, the highest possible level of black belt. He is considered by many to be the "father" of Aikido in the United States. Starting in the early 1950's Tohei Sensei began frequent visits to the United States and Europe in an effort to spread Aikido. He is also a prolific writer. Many of his books have been translated into English, the most famous of which is "Ki in Daily Life" which describes the application of Ki and Aikido principles to day to day living. The main focus in the Ki Society is on the principles underlying Aikido. These basic principles are the same for all human activities, not just the martial art.
